CONFLICT IN NEGELE BORENA
In and around the town Negele Borena there are two ethnic groups; Guji and Borena. The Guji’s want the town’s name be changed to Negele, but the Borena’s want the name of the town to be as it is. And this leads to conflict and as eyewitnesses of the conflict reported to DireTube news from five to ten individuals must have died in the ensuing clash.
It is reported that the main reason behind today’s conflict being some individuals erasing the name ‘Borena’ from some of the town’s government offices. The Zone’s police information desk officer Constable Kila Bifo told DireTube news that the clash started on Monday March 24, 2014 and that they have asked for an additional peace keeping force from Bishoftu.
It is feared that unless some intervention is put in place the conflict might escalate. As Constable Kila Bifo said the town is in the hands of those individuals who created the conflict and that an additional security force hasn’t yet arrived.
